Environment and Climate Change Directorate

The Directorate carries out activities aimed at creating value for members and stakeholders in thematic areas such as environment, climate change, sustainability, circular economy, and renewable energy. It is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Chamber’s policies and strategies in these areas. Within this framework, the Directorate conducts activities to understand the challenges caused by climate change and to develop rational and innovative solutions to these challenges within its sphere of influence. It also undertakes research, strategy development, monitoring, and implementation-related activities.

The Directorate consists of two coordinatorships operating in the fields of Climate Change and Sustainability, and Environment, Energy and Circular Economy.

Climate Change and Sustainability Coordinatorship

  • Conducting research and analysis on the effects of climate change on the manufacturing industry and future scenarios
  • Monitoring climate change policies; developing the Chamber’s policies and strategies for combating climate change; participating in national and international negotiations; and presenting policy recommendations
  • Carrying out awareness and information activities regarding carbon and water footprints
  • Developing climate-resilient manufacturing industry strategies; analyzing climate-related risks at sectoral, regional, and institutional levels and developing adaptation strategies
  • Preparing reports and organizing training programs and seminars to inform members and relevant social groups and raise awareness about climate change
  • Coordinating the preparation process of the Chamber’s sustainability strategy and carrying out activities in line with the action plan
  • Designing and implementing projects supporting sustainability initiatives carried out by member companies
  • Conducting joint activities with national and international organizations regarding the financing of sustainability compliance efforts carried out by members, including the European Green Deal and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
  • Organizing campaigns and events related to acquis harmonization studies and developing mechanisms to share best practice examples among members
  • Designing training programs for the development of sustainability experts to be employed in the manufacturing industry
  • Developing regional, national, and international projects related to its field of responsibility
  • Publishing member announcements related to its field of responsibility
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Secretary General

Environment, Energy and Circular Economy Coordinatorship

  • Conducting activities for the sustainable use of environment, energy, and natural resources
  • Monitoring and reporting environmental indicators such as energy consumption analyses and waste management data
  • Carrying out activities to increase the environmental awareness of members and supporting the development of Turkish Environmental Legislation in a way that balances industrial competitiveness and environmental protection
  • Developing projects and programs to strengthen interaction between members and startups, technology, design, and engineering companies operating in the fields of environment, energy, and waste management
  • Preparing reports and organizing training programs and seminars to inform members about environmental and energy legislation and circular economy issues
  • Developing projects related to environment, circular economy, and energy through cooperation among the private sector, public institutions, universities, and non-governmental organizations
  • Conducting activities aimed at ensuring the continuous, high-quality, and cost-effective supply of energy for industry; developing projects and contributing to legislative efforts together with public and private organizations to increase the share of domestic and renewable energy resources and support the domestic production of energy-generating equipment
  • Carrying out activities related to efficient waste utilization, waste reduction, industrial symbiosis, and the Waste Exchange Platform
  • Establishing industrial symbiosis platforms and designing projects to increase companies’ implementation capacities in renewable energy and green technologies
  • Conducting studies, when necessary, for the establishment of specialized organized industrial zones in the fields of environment and energy (such as Recycling Specialized OIZs and Energy Specialized OIZs)
  • Carrying out awareness activities regarding recycling and reuse
  • Developing informative and guiding programs in cooperation with public institutions regarding new legislation and implementation practices
  • Developing regional, national, and international projects related to its field of responsibility
  • Publishing member announcements related to its field of responsibility
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Secretary General
